The Dodge Durango Compared to The Dodge Journey

The front of the 2021 Dodge Durango is arguably the meanest look among most of the SUV’s available today. Among the Durango and the Journey, the former is also a vehicle that is known more among buyers due to its history. Both are three row SUVs with a great amount of seating space. However, the Durango stands out from the Journey in different ways, one of them being engine options.

Ride and Handling:

The Durango does handle well, but primarily on long and open roads. The Journey has a smaller wheelbase and a suspension that is more nimble and handles better around tight corners. Ride comfort in the Journey stands out due to the soft suspension. Fore slightly sportier handling on the Journey, one can choose the Crossroad trim with a Touring suspension that has larger wheels and more responsiveness.

Pricewise, the Durango is more expensive than the Journey, with the latter’s 2021 model being an excellent buy for those with a wide budget range. SE, Crossroad, and GT are the three trims available on the Journey, with Dodge likely to introduce an SRT model here.

Outer Design:

All models of the Durango look sporty at the front, with the grille getting chrome surrounds in lower trims. A hood scoop can be seen on the R/T and the SRT trims. Full LED lights are available across all trim levels. 18 and 20 inch alloys are available. The Journey would also be looking good as compared to before but isn’t quite as magnificent. Expect it to get halogen headlamps as standard.

Engine and Performance:

The Dodge Durango SRT and the Dodge Journey Crossroad get two magnificent engines for the mid-size, three row SUV category. The Durango SRT takes a mere 4.4 seconds to accelerate from 0-60, buoyed by the massive 6.4 liter engine present inside. This generates a phenomenal 475 hp of power and 470 lbs.-ft of torque, making it one of the most powerful vehicles in its class. Compared to this, the Journey gets a 2.4 liter engine with 173 hp and 165 lbs.-ft of torque. The engine in the Journey is compact and can bring more fun to the road than earlier.

While the engine in the SRT is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, the Journey is available with 4-speed auto transmission. However, manufacturers may add an SRT to its lineup, which is likely to get 5.7 liter V8 from the Durango. The Durango also comes with a better towing capacity than the Journey.

Interior Design:

Both vehicles are available with the same 8.4 inch touch screen Uconnect infotainment system. The rear backup camera in the Journey is slightly better than the one in the Durango. Though the sunroof/moonroof is available on the Journey as an option, it is not present in the Durango. Those who want more flair in the Durango can add racing stripes. LED tail lamps are present on the Journey.

Safety Technology:

Safety tech available in the Journey includes:

  • Parksense rear park-assist
  • Rear backup parking camera
  • Keyless entry

Expect to see more airbags in the latest avatar of the Dodge Journey. The Durango gets parking sensors at the front as well as the back.
